Our area Youth Choir will rehearse weekly to prepare for two performances during the semester. Fun and exciting musical literature will include folksongs, world music, art music, and a mix of other musical styles. Rehearsals will include time to prepare our music, as well as learn fundamental music reading skills. All participants will be expected to attend rehearsals and work together as a team. Youth Soccer is a popular choice for kids who want to be active and learn to develop their skills as a soccer player. Players will be assigned to teams by MPRD. Teams will consist of a mixture of players from various schools. Boys and Girls will be in separate leagues if participation numbers permit. Only head coaches' children will be assigned to specific teams. Shinguards are required for all practices and games. No jewelry is allowed for all practices and games Season consists of 7 games scheduled by Manhattan Parks and Recreation.Games will begin no later than the week of March 26, 2018 and tentatively end by May 10, 2018.Games are played weekday evenings (*Mondays thru Thursdays) starting at 6:00 or 7:00Games will be played at Anneberg Soccer Complex or Griffith Park.Practices will begin no later than March 12.Coaches are responsible for scheduling practice dates, times and locations.Coaches will notify players by phone/email of team assignment and practice schedule. PLEASE CONSIDER BEING A COACH FOR YOUR CHILD'S TEAM.Coaches are volunteers, often parents or college students.Coaches must attend coaches meeting and complete the National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA) on-line training/certification.Questions? What is Start Smart Soccer?Start Smart Soccer, a program of the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS), teaches children (ages 3-6) the basic motor skills necessary to play organized soccer while they spend quality time working one-on-one with their parents. Children must be 3 years of age by March 31, 2018. The program focuses on teaching children and their parents basic sports mechanics without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. Start Smart Soccer sessions are held once a week for six weeks. Each week the exercises become increasingly more difficult as the class progresses and the children show improvement.Start Smart sessions are held once a week for six weeks on Saturday's at City Auditorium(1101 Poyntz Ave). REGISTRATION DEADLINESunday, March 18 or until league is fullFEES: (Payable to MPRD)$400.00/U8 team $570.00/U9-U14 teamsPROGRAM INFORMATIONTeams will be accepted on a "first pay, first play" basis. Limited spots are available. MPRD staff will combine age groups, if necessary, in order to fill divisions. MPRD staff will not place individuals on teams. Includes twelve games per team, staff, and game balls. Teams must provide their own equipment and uniforms. The season will begin the week of April 16, and will end the week of July 9. Since early portion of the league is during the school year, the first four weeks of games will be single games.Games will be played at the Twin Oaks Sports Complex, the CiCo Park Complex, and Griffith Park. The 8U league will be machine pitch. This goes for games that are 8U vs. 8U. AGE REQUIREMENT Cutoff date is May 1, 2018. This means whatever age a player is on April 30, 2018 will determine their age eligibility for the 2018 season.A new grade requirement outlined by USSSA will be followed as well.
